the YOU DONT BELONG HERE postcards

a multiple series made up of 6 postcards focusing on the notion of feeling out of place within Canada. The postcards play on language and visuals to evoke this sense of being ostracized. The series includes a title card, and four postcards depict moments many immigrants can relate to within the Canada ‘experience’, though they are strongly influenced by my personal experience.

a first generation millennial immigrant experience

you don't have the right to give me names, i already have one.

don't label our house, it's a safe place to lay our heads. not for you to call the cultured house.

a way a family comes to be is not a topic to discuss over tea.

my mother was raised on the fruits of her land, i promise they won't kill you.

my home is here it has always been here so stop telling me to leave

this project was based on the idea that people feel as though they can comment on anything and everything but do not take ownership on how it affects those they speaking of. I have been hurt many times by societies ignorance and inability to respect who I am and my identity. So these postcards are my way of expressing how people may sometimes say something and not consider how it affects others.
